Advanced Program in Computer Science

Internships, Exchange and Jobs

Ways to gain professional and international experience during the programme (the Internship elective, self-arranged internships, credit transfer, student exchange), plus job postings and partner companies.

Internship elective

CS404 Internship — a four-credit elective

The curriculum includes CS404 Internship (4 credits, 30 hours of theory and 60 hours of practice) as a Computer Science elective, offered in the model plan in year three. It is optional: students may instead take other electives, and the graduation block (Thesis or Capstone) is separate.

Registration

Register it as a CS elective in your study plan; the quarter in which it opens follows the yearly timetable of the programme office.

Supervision and assessment

A supervisor at the host organisation follows the daily work; a Faculty lecturer is responsible for the academic side and grading, as set out in the syllabus.

Syllabus

Objectives, deliverables and grading are in the course syllabus (Module Handbook, being published) and the course description on the ctda site.

Self-arranged internships

Applying for internships outside the curriculum

Students may arrange an internship that fits their study plan. This option carries no academic credits and can provide experience before a Thesis or Capstone.

Find opportunities

Follow the Faculty's recruitment page, the Faculty fan page, FIT Career Day and companies' own channels.

Paperwork

If the company needs a letter of introduction or student confirmation, contact the programme office or the University's Student Affairs office.

Balance with study

Discuss timing with your homeroom lecturer so the internship does not slow your progress through the quarters.

Exchange & transfer

International pathways

Transfer and credit recognition depend on agreements with partner universities. The Faculty also announces student exchanges and short programmes with its partners.

Credit transfer

Guidance on transferring to Portland State University is published by the Office of Project-based Programmes; conditions (GPA, credits, language, finance) depend on the partner and the year.

Student exchange

The Faculty's exchange partners include the National Institute of Informatics and JAIST (Japan), the National University of Singapore, Portland State University and the University of Memphis (USA) and Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1 (France). Calls are announced per year.

Scholarships from partners

Scholarships from partner universities, international organisations and companies are announced by the Faculty and the programme office as they arise.

Current calls for exchange, transfer guidance and partner scholarships are published by the programme office and the Faculty.
