Registration for the Seminar "The role of training corpora in Vietnamese natural language processing"

12-04-2023

☘️ Speaker: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Dien

- Time: 08:30 - 10:00 AM, December 09, 2023 (Saturday)

- Topic: The role of training corpora in Vietnamese NLP

Recently, AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Bard, Bing, etc. have profoundly impacted many areas of life and become powerful tools for humans in many natural language processing tasks such as question answering, information retrieval, text generation, text summarization, machine translation, etc. for most widely used languages in the world, including Vietnamese.

However, the AI chatbots still cannot provide accurate answers for some Vietnam-specific problems related to language, history, culture, geography, politics, law, etc. The main reason is that those chatbots have not been trained on corpora suitable for the aforementioned problems.

To overcome these limitations, we need to research how to build high-quality corpora that meet the criteria of corpus linguistics, cater to Vietnam's characteristics, and use them to train state-of-the-art machine learning models. This allows us to build or improve current chatbots so they can handle Vietnam-specific problems well. For example, Translating ancient Han-Nom texts into modern Vietnamese script, learning about history (discovering patterns between historical events like kings' coronations, deaths, comets appearing, earthquakes, droughts, storms, floods, epidemics, famines, wars, riots, uprisings, etc.), geography (Hoang Sa, Truong Sa islands, etc.), traditional medicine (ancient remedies, etc.),...
